money and magic (blind contour)

I love the improvisation nature of blind contour drawing.

Generally speaking, I love improv everything.

I love the faith of it. The trust fall. The leaning in to the mystery.

After hours of food prep and inner work (because, Sunday), I wandered over to the local magic shop, Malliway Brothers, here in Chicago. I was chatting with some people there, a lovely soul was complimenting me on my red scarf, I was answering a question someone had about the astrology of the day, and just generally enjoying myself when I gestured with my arms and knocked over an entire basket of spell candles.

Everyone cheered and the gent behind the counter said, “Opa!, raised his arms up and I said, “Your response is making me cry.” He said, “No use in crying over spilled candles!” and it took me back to my days of taking improv at Freehold Theater with Matt Smith who would have us do a “Victory Bow” where we raised our arms up into a “V” and bowed if we made a mistake. It was a lovely, lovely moment that reflected back how I have been with my children and have learned to be with myself.

Magic, indeed.

A Blessing

May you find yourself among people who cheer for you, dear reader.
