Computerized drops of water play the drums in the courtyard at Cedar River Watershed Education Center in Washington State. Here’s a blurb from their website:
“The Seattle Arts Commission, through the 1% for Art Fund, commissioned local artist, Dan Corson, to create art that highlights water in our environment. A ring of drums in the Forest Court play when it rains. On rainless days, a computerized irrigation system releases water droplets onto the drumheads and can be programmed to play rhythms from around the world. In the winter, these raindrums will be turned off to prevent pipes from freezing. Corson also turned tree root balls dug from the watershed into hanging sculptures, interlaced with strands of gas-filled glass that mimics the flow of water.”
