look for good
“Don’t give up on me and I won’t give up on you.” ~Michael Franti
The world is not ending because the banks are corrupt. (Greed has always existed and is rapidly being replaced by sharing. You’ll see.)
The world is not also not ending because fish and birds are dying. (They die all the time but right now people are actively looking for “signs of the end”.)
This business of looking for signs of conspiracy and Armefuckingeddon are exactly that: People are looking for them. it’s a bit like getting a green Honda and then seeing them everywhere. It doesn’t mean there are more green Hondas, only that we didn’t notice them before. Our minds like to get busy focusing on drama and disaster (especially if we might think the “end” is near). That doesn’t mean it’s multiplying.
The world is a big place. Perspective is important. For example, the ocean covers 71 percent of the Earth’s surface and contains 97 percent of the planet’s water, yet more than 95 percent of the underwater world remains unexplored.
There is so much we can’t see or don’t know. Drawing conclusions about the small bits of what gets reported in a world as vast as ours seems ill-advised. That doesn’t mean the governments in the world aren’t doing nasty things at times. There is both bad and good in the world and there always has been.
It is true that the poles are shifting and there is a lot of upheaval right now. Humanity is going through a huge Rite of Passage and we’re being forced to grow up. We can act like adolescents who blame their parents for their bad grades and boredom or we can move into adulthood and take full responsibility for our lives and the future of this planet.
Keep going, keep creating, keep holding yourself and each other accountable by taking responsibility for the life and world you create. Do your part by choosing love rather than fear and compassion over judgment every time, everywhere. Focus your attention over and over again on what you want rather than what you don’t want.
When you start to lose faith or feel afraid, do this:
Don’t give up. Look for the good. Love. Imagine goodness.
Yes, it’s almost 2012 but this isn’t the end, it’s the beginning.
